G-Star RAW by Marc Newson 2013 Fall/Winter Collection Preview

"Industrial designer Marc Newson and G-Star brings forth another awe-inspiring collection for 2013 fall/winter that merges modern technicality with Japanese denim sensibility. Sprawled across five-pocket denims and bomber jackets, the Japanese denim range sees the use of herringbone selvedge denim in meticulous cut and sew style." - Courtesy of Hypebeast.com

Most people that commented on this post on hype beast.com began to rant and rave about of number of things in which they have a problem with this collection or at least its impending price. Me personally, I like it. The focus on this collection doesn't seem to be the actual design but more of the style, cut, and quality of denim and the jackets.

Trust me, I enjoy my creative graphic style collections but I also have a very strong appreciation for the clean, basic design. So far from what I see from the preview, I like the cut of the varsity jacket most. It looks like heavyweight material but doesn't have a traditional bulky look of a basic varsity jacket. Most jackets that I usually see with this more slim cut are thin are usually don't show up until spring.

Even though I'm giving this collection a lot of credit doesn't mean I don't recognize the obvious. This style is by no means ground breaking and yes, the varsity jacket does have the same slim fit of a Nike Destroyer jacket. The black on black style works better on slim cut varsity jackets in my opinion and surprisingly everybody can't pull off straight black on black.

With that being said, I look forward to seeing what else comes from this collection as we draw closer and closer to more brands releasing their fall/winter 2013 collection previews.
