Richard Mille RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire

Richard Mille‘s RM 56 sees its latest evolution debut this summer with the introduction of the new RM 56-02 Tourbillon Sapphire from the luxury watchmaker. Marked by the “unprecedented use of sapphire to create transparent components” and a unique cable-and-pulley system that sees the intricate movement suspended within the case, the timepiece is arguably Mille’s most complex to date.
Milled from solid sapphire, the scratch-resistant three-piece case takes a whopping 960 hours to craft–the equivalent of 40 days of around-the-clock machining–while the bridge itself takes an additional 400 hours–meaning 1,500 hours of sapphire machining is packed into each and every watch. The watch also takes cues from Rafael Nadal‘s RM 27-01, suspending a grade 5 titanium baseplate with a system of pulleys and a 0.35mm braided cable.
Limited to just 10 pieces in all and priced at $2,020,000 USD each, the Swiss-made marvel will debut later this year in Hong Kong at the annual Watches&Wonders exhibition. via Hypebeast.com
