Take a Closer Look at Japan's Latest Life-Sized Gundam

Japan‘s newest life-sized Gundam is coming to the Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport Fukuoka in Spring 2022. The 1:1 RX-93FF V Gundam project was first announced back in September by Bandai Namco.

Standing at 81.3 feet tall, the Gundam is a play on Amuro Ray’s Nu Gundam from the 1988 Char’s Counterattack. Prolific Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino was also involved in the design of the statue as well as the new tri-tone color scheme. The RX-93 Nu Gundam is expected to be the tallest Gundam model with a height of approximately 65.6 feet (20 meters), towering over Tokyo’s full-size RX-o Unicron Gundam, Yokohama’s RX-78-2 Gundam and Shanghai’s ZGMF-X10A Freedom Gundam. A key feature of the Fukuoka Gundam is that it will include a long-range Fin Funnel.

While there are still some finishing touches that need to be made for the Fukuoka Gundam, the life-sized statue is on track to be completed by the end of February and will be open to the public in April 2022. Take a closer look above at the Gundam. via Hypebeast.com

Takashi Murakami x New Era Flower-Filled Collaboration

Takashi Murakami has teamed up with New Era for a collaboration that’s full of his signature multicolored flower designs.

The collection features New Era’s 59FIFTY, 9FIFTY, 9FORTY A-Frame Trucker, 9THIRTY Cloth Strap and 9TWENTY Cloth Strap hats with a variety of Murakami characters and flowers. In addition to New Era’s classic hats, the collection includes wool beanies, caps, long sleeve tees and short sleeve tees.

Earlier this month, the renowned Japanese artist unveiled a new collaboration with watchmaker, Hublot. The new collaboration sees the Hublot Classic Fusion with Murakami’s signature flower donning 487 gemstones, including rubies, amethysts, tsavorites and an array of colorful sapphire crystals.

Ranging in price from ¥5,500 JPY (about $48 USD) to ¥9,900 JPY (about $86 USD), the Takashi Murakami x New Era collaboration drops exclusively in Japan on New Era’s website and in designated stores on Saturday, January 1, 2022. via Hypebeast.com

BAPE X UNION 30TH ANNIVERSARY COLLABORATION COLLECTION

Union is wrapping up its 30th-anniversary celebrations with BAPE, yielding a collaborative collection as steeped in history as it is in mutual respect. It ties up the impressive run of exclusives that the retailer launched throughout 2021, ending on a suitably strong note.

Logos like the APE HEAD and Union's Frontman are mashed up across a spread of athleisure staples like hoodies and sweatpants in the anniversary capsule, yielding some surprisingly understated BAPE pieces.

Considering that the Japanese company most recently issued a statement Minecraft collab and neon-tinged ROAD-STA sneakers, it's nice to see BAPE drop some low-key apparel instead of anything especially flashy.

That being said, considering the BAPE-STA's big year, it would've been nice to see BAPE's signature sneaker get the Union treatment. via Highsnobiety.com

The Air Jordan 11 “Cool Grey” Is Officially Unveiled

First seen in 2001, the monochromatic take on one of the most popular Jordans delivers a remastered version of the model’s non-original colorway. A neutral grey nubuck makes up most of the upper, with glossy patent leather entering the mix by way of the iconic curved mudguard. Close inspection of the pair reveals a difference in height and shape in comparison to 2010’s “Cool Grey” 11s, though 2021’s iteration is a closer replica of Tinker Hatfield’s 26-year-old design. Laces and branding on the tongue, lateral heel and spine deviate from the greyscale arrangement in favor of stark “White” contrast. Yet, the semi-translucent icy blue outsole arguably steals the spotlight, addressing the yellowing that plagued the sneakers last time they released. via SneakerNews.com

A Ma Maniere Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG

Collaborator of the year? A Ma Maniére is certainly making a strong case for that cause due to their impressive and consciously concepted projects with Nike, Jordan, and adidas in 2021. Acting as a sturdy bookend to their eventful 2021 is their Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG, officially revealed on their social channels and confirmed for a release on November 24th, 2021. It features a cream white upper with a plum-like shade accented by a reptile-textured Swoosh logo and ankle, completing a luxurious package that mirrors the quality of their Air Jordan 3 collaboration of earlier this year. For this project, A Ma Maniére states: “Inspired by the realities of daily life in Black communities, the A Ma Maniére Air Jordan 1 is a symbol of resilience in the face of adversity and a testament to the power of unity. Every detail serves to make this moment special for our communities and beyond, empowering and uplifting every voice.” via SneakerNews.com

Nike Kobe 6 Protro "All-Star"

Nike (NYSE:NKE -0.83%) ‘s continued rollout of Kobe Bryant‘s classic signature models in Protro form offers poignant memories of the late Los Angeles Lakers legend — and the latest moment/model to be spotlighted is the Kobe 6 Protro “All-Star.” Worn by the Black Mamba during his MVP performance at the 2011 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles, the shoe features a color scheme designed to match 2011’s ASG jerseys and upgraded tech that helps bring its on-court performance into a new decade.

A red synthetic material serves as the base on the upper’s toebox and midfoot, interspersed with spray paint-like dashes of black and covered by the Kobe 6’s signature scaly snakeskin print. Mesh throats and leather heels alike are done up in black, with midfoot Swooshes presented in white for a touch of airy contrast. Black and red laces nod to the game’s year and location with “2011” and “LA” on the left and right foot’s fused deubres, while more branding is provided by Kobe’s Kill Bill-inspired sheath logo on the tongue and his signature in silver on the black heel clip.

Insoles supply a special red and white print that nods to the All-Star Game, and the midsoles/outsoles are packed chock-full of upgrade tech. A large Air Zoom Turbo bag is embedded in the forefoot, the heel boasts a softer foam than the original pair and the improved traction pattern offers more surface area for sharp cuts to the hoop to complete the shoe’s build.

An official release date for the Nike Kobe 6 Protro “All-Star” has yet to be announced, but it may arrive on Nike SNKRS around when the 2021 All-Star Game was originally supposed to be played in February. via Hypebeast.com

Nike Air VaporMax Plus in Classic Varsity Red/White

The release of a new, yet staple colorway finds its way to the Nike (NYSE:NKE +0.97%) Air VaporMax Plus.

Coming in the unmistakably classic Varsity Red and White, this simple dual-tone sneaker is one of many VaporMax renditions Nike has released over the years. The shoe is dressed in a clean, crisp white, neoprene constructed upper. Its leather heel and signature plastic overlays seen on the toe and side panels are also in white to blend into the pristine snow-white upper. The shoe is accented with University Red, the only other color visible on the entire outer sole unit, branding, inner liner, and heel pull tabs. To finish it off, the translucent VaporMax sole not only adds a retro look to the shoe but includes a subtly embossed Swoosh logo on the bottom.

Fans will have to wait for the official release date in-store and online at Nike but, can expect the Nike Air VaporMax Plus to retail at $200 USD. via Hypebeast.com

Air Max 1 in "Dark Teal Green" and "Obsidian"

Nike (NYSE:NKE +0.97%) ‘s Air Max 1 has always struck an impeccable balance between sport and lifestyle, and it’s leaning even further into that rarefied ethos with new “Dark Teal Green” and “Obsidian” makeups. Featuring crisp colorblocking, a full leather construction in place of its standard mesh-and-suede build and special mini Swoosh accents, this dynamic duo serves as apt successors to the recently-revealed “Martian Sunrise” pair.

Both styles offer up a tri-color blend of leathers on their uppers, one based around standard white and gray shades spread across toeboxes, midfoot overlays, heels and collars. All these pieces accent mudguards and Swooshes done up in a “Dark Teal Green” tone that wouldn’t look out of place on a Ken Griffey Jr. signature sneaker or an ultra-dark “Obsidian” hue that’s somewhere between navy blue and black. Both also feature corresponding Nike Sportswear hits on the fabric tongue tags and embroidered heel badges as well, and are completed by way of white midsoles, bold heel Air Max units and tri-color outsoles.

The Nike Air Max 1 “Dark Teal Green” and “Obsidian” are both set to release via Nike SNKRS Korea on January 8, then will likely hit global stockists shortly thereafter. The MSRP for each is set at $150 USD. via Hypebeast.com

Nike Dunk High "Vast Grey White"

The resurgence of Nike  (NYSE:NKE +0.97%) Dunks is predicted to carry its momentum well throughout 2021 via a plethora of striking collaborations and classic bring-backs. Involved with the latter is the Nike Dunk High “Vast Grey” which as just been uncovered by way of official imagery.

Like the rest of the variations involved within the Nike’s Spring 2021 lineup of Dunk colorways, this particular iteration gravitates towards a two-toned ensemble that champions versatility and simplicity. The base layers are reliant on a pure white hue to dress up the ankle collars, tongues, quarter paneling and toe boxes, while its “Vast Grey” tone clings onto the laces, sock liners and neighboring overlays.

Down under, the midsoles are also painted with a clean white exterior, while the outsoles are given a grey complexion to match that of the upper.

Given the nature of this color-coordination, this pair somewhat evokes a similar look and feel of the ever-iconic Dior x Air Jordan 1 High that released to the public during Summer 2020.

If you’re looking to scoop up a pair, a launch that includes men’s and kid’s sizes is scheduled to go down via select retailers like Asphalt Goldcome January 14. via Hypebeast.com

Notre x Nike Dunk High "Light Oreowood Brown"

Building off of an initial reveal last year, we now have an official look at the Notre x Nike (NYSE:NKE +0.61%) Dunk High “Light Orewood Brown.” The collaboration between the Chicago boutique and sportswear giant is inspired by elements of a mechanic shop and the workwear sported by mechanics.

Centered around a mix of “Light Orewood Brown/White,” the upper of the shoe features a rugged white canvas base framed by panels of shaggy beige suede. Branding is led by handshake detail stretching embroidered Swooshes, “NIKE” tongue tags underscored by white/red “Notre” mechanics shirt badges and printed insoles. Rounding up the design of the collaboration, are padded leather collars, large heel tabs, two-toned dashed laces and off white midsoles paired with beige rubber outsoles.

Reportedly priced at $150 USD, the Notre x Nike Dunk High “Light Orewood Brown” has not received an official release date but it is expected to drop in the coming weeks. via Hypebeast.com

Air Jordan 3 "Midnight Navy"

Nike, Inc. has been the official outfitter of the Georgetown Hoyas since 1985 — only three years after Michael Jordan‘s UNC Tar Heelsvanquished the Hoyas in the 1982 NCAA Championship game — and for the last decade-plus the team has worn Jordan Brand uniforms and footwear while receiving several special PEs. Now, the Jumpman is seemingly drawing from Hoya Saxa’s signature navy and gray shades for an Air Jordan 3 “Midnight Navy.”

Though there’s no Georgetown-specific branding, the look is all Hoya hoops. Uppers are made of a tumbled navy leather, surrounded by a smooth navy mudguard and perforated gray eyestay piece. Collars and tongues are done up in gray as well, with the latter featuring a navy Jumpman graphic and trim. Signature elephant print arrives on mudguards and heel pieces alike, while the plastic navy heel tab boasts a large Air Jordan graphic. Down below, white/navy midsoles house a translucent Air unit in the heel and navy/gray/white outsoles round off the look.

The Air Jordan 3 “Midnight Navy” has been reported for a March 20 release on Nike SNKRS, and will likely be priced at $190 USD. Grade school sizes will also be available. via Hypebeast.com
